A Tyrant Scientist
‘The Father of DNA’ Watson’s views about some of the real-life issues are truly offensive.
Scientists are brilliant & genius people.
Credible fact analysis & data-driven comments are their specialties.
But not every scientist has these qualities.
Take the example of James Watson, ‘the father of DNA’.
After winning the Nobel Prize in 1962, he’s been mostly in news for his offensive & abhorrent views.
Sexist, racist, homophobic, anti-semitic & fat-shaming remarks have been bolstered by him.
This started back in 1968 & continued uninterruptedly.
Watson’s book ‘The Double Helix’ included a sexist depiction of Rosalind Franklin.
Derogatory comments were made on her, pertaining to dress-code & feminine majesty.
Rosalind was referred to as ‘Rosy’, a nickname she never used.
In 1997, he opined to Sunday Telegraph that women should be allowed to abort fetuses with gay genes.
That led to the lambasting of his stance by the LGBTQ community.
In 2000, he stated about the unhappiness of thinner people compared to thicker counterparts.
In 2007, he denounced about lower IQ of black people relative to white peers.
In 2019, he reiterated his view on that racist statement once again during a documentary shoot.
Post that event, Cold Harbour Spring lab completely severed its ties with this scientist.
